Voraussetzungen an Ihren Browser

Requirements for your browser

This application is tested on a windows desktop-computer with the following browsers in their latest version:

  • Firefox
  • Firefox ESR (Please read our recommendations for firefox ESR in our Documentation)
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Safari (with MAC OS)
  • Google Chrome

This application is tested on a tablet computer with the following browsers in their latest version:

  • Safari on IPad
  • Google Chrome on Android.

This application is tested on a smartphone with the following browsers in their latest version:

  • Safari on IPhone
  • Google Chrome on Android.

Please use a current browser and operating system to minimize security risks. Your computer should not be used in energy-saving-mode.

This application was tested using Jaws 2020 and jaws 2021 in combination with chrome and with integrated screenreaders in IOS and Android.

Navigiate with structural features

Tools like screenreaders allow navigation by structural features of a website, that support a direct jump to the next or the previous region.

The following elements indicate regions:

  • banner
  • search
  • main 
  • contents (for the footer)
  • navigation (for the dropdown-element that contains the menu)
  • navigation (breadcrumb navigation)

Navigate with key combinations

You can use key combinations, which lead you directly to

  • to navigation (SHIFT + ALT + 'o')
  • to content (SHIFT + ALT + 'i'))
  • to a search within menu items, only for registered users (shortcut + '3')
  • to logout (SHIFT + ALT + 'l'), only for registered users
  • to login (SHIFT + ALT + 'a')

If you are logged into the system, you have additional possibilities to use key combinations and to adapt them personally. Your university could probably have changed these standard combinations. If you have questions, contact your university.

Messages

Important news for users e.g. error messages are shown in a separate window on the right side after a form was sent.Success messages will disappear after a few seconds. You can use the button “Show again all hidden messages” to blend them in.You can close the news windows using the escape-key.

Mobile devices and small browser windows

  • Some elements in the navigation frame are moved to the navigation menu in small devices.
  • Tables are linearized, so that rows are displayed among themselves and not side by side.
  • The cards on the page "Student Service" are displayed as collapsable tabs among themselves. If you click on a tab, the content will be shown on a new page. To go back to the overview of tabs, click on the back-button on the top left of the page.
  • The cards on the starting page are displayed in a dropdown menu.
  • The footer is hidden. You can access the content from the footer through the main menu.
  • The login is displayed as a drop-down. Click on "To login" in the header to open the login.

Adding an home screen icon to your startpage on mobile devices

You can reach this website faster, if you add an home screen icon to your startpage.

For android devices:

  1. Open this website in the Chrome browser.
  2. Click on the setting icon in the right top corner.
  3. Select the option Add to home screen.

For IOS devices:

  1. Open this website in the Safari Browser.
  2. Click the share-icon in the browser.
  3. Select the option Add to home screen.

Adding an icon to your desktop

This feature is currently only available in Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. You see a pop-up at the bottom of the website.

This is how you add an icon to your desktop:

  1. Open this website in Google Chrome or Microsofrt Edge-Browser.
  2. Click on the button at the bottom of the website to install the app.
  3. The browser shows a pop-up.
  4. Click on the button "Intall" in the pop-up.
  5. The website opens in a new window on your computer and an icon is added to your desktop.

By clicking the x-button in the pop-up at the bottom of the website you can temporarily delete the functionality.

Format of numbers and dates

You must often enter dates and numeric values many times. The system supports the following notations:

  • Entries for times can be written as hh, hh:mm or h:mm:ss.
  • A date can be written as dd.mm.yy. dd.mm.yyyy, ddmmyy, ddmmyyyy, mm/dd/yy, mm/dd/yyyy, m/dd/yy, m/dd/yyyy, mm/d/yy, mm/d/yyyy, m/d/yy, m/d/yyyy. 

The calendar date picker is not accessible by keyboard. You can select the date using the calendar date picker only if you use the mouse. You can also enter the date manually by using the keyboard.

Form items without visable lables

The following form items do not have visable lables:

  • Input in tables
  • Selection lists in tables

Forms in screen reader

You can find different forms on this website which contain further explanations. Please read the forms using the reading mode otherwise you will miss important information using the form mode of the screen reader.

With Jaws 2020 it is necessary to navigate with the arrow down key to access the content  of popups.

In Chrome, in some cases, if an entry is incorrect, a message about the corresponding input field is read first, followed by the system popup message from the screen reader. In others, the system pop-up message is read first.

Select boxes in screen reader

Select boxes with lists are offered which you can use with the keyboard.

  • Arrow down: Open the select list.
  • Navigate within the select list using the arrows up and down.
  • Confirm your selection using the enter key.
  • The select list can be reduced by typing letters in the input field.
  • Please use the select list in form operating mode of the screenreader.

Screenreader Voiceover IOS: If a selection field is a list, the description "pop-up menu" will be read to you.Double-tap to activate. Swipe right to move from one element to the next, swipe left to go back. Activate the selected item through double-tapping.

Screen reader Talkback Android: If a selection field is a list, the description "list box" will be read to you.Double-tap to activate. Swipe right to move from one element to the next, swipe left to go back. Activate the selected item through double-tapping.

In the research management, BI and some parts of APP, the keyboard operation of the selection fields differs:

  • Arrow down: Open the select list.Arrow down: Open the select list.
    • If the input field is empty, the entire list with all entries is opened.
    • If an entry is made, a restricted selection list opens.
  • Navigate within the select list using the arrows up and down.
  • Confirm your selection using the enter key.
  • Please use the select list in form operating mode of the screenreader.

Define menu keys for bookmarks

You can click on Create a new bookmark and define up to 9 bookmarks for menu keys. Therefore you use the choice box Menu key. The hotkeys activate the menu keys. The Hotkeys usually consists of the keys [SHIFT+ALT]. That is why you use the key combination [SHIFT+ALT] for your book mark. The key combinations only work, when you are registered.

User defined Hotkey

A Hotkey is used in the combination with a menu key to show bookmarks or to use a help function. You can indicate your own Hotkey. Please note that some keys are only available on certain systems (Mac: "option", "command", Windows/Linux: "alt", "meta"). The standard Hotkey contains the keys [SHIFT+ALT]. You can change the function of the standard Hotkey using the user icon at the top right.

Adapt tables individually

  1. Click on Adapt table on the upper margin of a table.
  2. A configuration dialog opens. Only larger tables have the function Adapt table.
  3. Make the configuration using one or several choice boxes and click the button Save.

You have the following configuration possibilities:

  • Choose the column: Decide here which columns should be presented (check mark to activate entry) and which should disappear (check mark to deactivate entry).
  • Move columns of tables: You can activate here the buttons to move columns of tables; afterwards you can move the columns directly. After moving the columns, you deactivate the buttons. The position of your recently moved columns maintains.
  • Navigation of tables: You can decide here whether the search/item pagination should appear above or below the table.
  • Amount of lines of table: For a concrete table, you can click directly on the table on Line per page to adapt the standard display of lines. Click on the enter key afterwards. 300 lines of a table can be indicated on one page.

Time limited restriction of session

As a registered user, you will be logged out for security reasons after being inactive for a longer period of time. You can find a note at the top right which shows you how long your session is still valid. If you click on the note, you will get an information text. Certain user groups have the right to remove the time limited restriction. If needed, contact your university.

Hochkontrastmodus

High Contrast Mode

Windows offers a High Contrast Mode. You can use this application in High Contrast Mode. Once you activate High Contrast Mode, remember to reload the current page. After reloading the page all of the contrast changes will be successful.
